to have multilingual menus, you must register and create menu locations (not menus in widget). Visit source code of twenty twelve-xili (as example) to see how to clone for each language.

poEdit is not able to edit (machine) .mo file built after editing .po file.

But if you use the powerful plugin xili-dictionary, you can do it… Be aware, xili-dictionary is a online tool attached to your site and needs a little time to tame it 😉

Bien lire le wiki pour prendre en compte les modifications et améliorations.

Xili-language version 2.8.3 is an intermediate version for recent WP 3.5.
The next version will be 2.9 adapted to announced stabilized WP 3.5.1.

Xili-language offers feature to append – automatically – language items to end of navigation menus. In particular context, the menu content can be empty to have only language items. WP 3.5 changes results (empty) if content is empty… so appending is not possible… xili-language Version 2.8.3 will fixe this new behavior. Shipping forecast in january (with new other features !!!)

Before to go back to some presented subjects, remember that translations of english texts must be done via mo files (resulting of compilation of po files inside theme sub-folder – see fr_FR.po for french as example) . Desktop app like poEdit can do that or online via xili-dictionary plugin. It is a little technic task so don’t hesitate to find around you skilled people.

In xili-language data model like in wp, each post is independent with his own language (taxonomy) and his own custom fields (post_meta)…
When creating translation, if you need to copy fields of the original post to help you to translate in the target post… you must create a special function with the filter/hook called when saving the new post… named save_post

(today, xili-language assigns taxonomy to the target post if the original has, by example, categories)…

Add your customized filter in your theme or your plugin – don’t modify the plugin – you will loose when updating plugin…

If you read sources of example themes like twentyten-xili or twenty eleven-xili, you will find in functions-xili/multilingual-functions.php some examples and filter how to fixe your pb.
